Pandora encapsules the nostalgia of warm summer evenings spent overturning logs in hopes of finding treasures beneath. This Violet Ground Beetle, Carabus violaceus was found in such an encounter, already deceased with head separated from thorax, a reminder of the duality of nature as benevolent goddess and destructive force. From the thorax sprouts instead a bundle of moss, and two small vertebrae rest on either side to complete the haunting display.
